Irrational Thoughts

In Advice on January 18, 2013 at 5:15 am

Logically, I keep telling myself I don’t have to be so negative.                                                                   Irrationally, I keep thinking of the worst.

I understand the dilemma of irrational thoughts. A simple one word text can set me off on a rampage on why this person no longer likes me. It’s crazy.

I think the trick is to eventually replace those negative thoughts with new, positive ones. And how do you do that? Well, when an irrational thought comes up, instead of letting it grow, think of realistic explanations.

For instance, the one word text. Why would someone ever commit that offense? Maybe they’re busy, perhaps they’re in a bad mood. There are countless other possibilities. The automatic conclusion doesn’t have to be they hate your guts.

It’s that constant watering of new thoughts that will, in time, disintegrate the old.

Then, you’re on your way to being a happier, more optimistic person on the whole.
