Tips & Tricks for Meditation

In Stress Relief on January 31, 2013 at 7:55 pm
  1. If you have trouble emptying your mind of thoughts, try saying “in” on each inhale and “out” on every exhale. You’ll find yourself hearing these words and silencing all other thoughts.
  2. Imagine a relaxing setting such as walking along the beach barefoot and feeling the wet sand between your toes or whatever is most relaxing to you.
  3. Don’t chastise yourself if thoughts are still flowing, let them pass by.
  4. The world around  you may not stop to let you meditate; however, just slowly tune out those sounds and don’t let the distractions anger you.
  5. Feel free to adjust your position while meditating.
  6. Remember, there is no one right way to meditate.
  7. Focus on the small things you usually don’t notice. Feel the weight of your chest with every breath, the beating of your heart, the minute movements you make, and anything else you can spot out.
  8. Listening to an audio of waterfalls or chirping birds may help to create your meditation sanctuary.
  9. Imagine a bright, heavenly light filling your body with each breath. Continue until your body is glowing with radiance.
  10. And the last tip comes from Chogyam Trungpa, author of Ocean of Dharma:

Meditation should not be regarded as a learning process. It should be regarded as an experiencing process. You should not try to learn from meditation but try to feel it. Meditation is an act of nonduality. The technique you are using should not be separate from you; it is you, you are the technique. Meditator and meditation are one. There is no relationship involved.
